Mom's Review
This book compares and contrasts the different types of moms in the world.
The comparisons are simple and definitely not all-inclusive. (The first is a contrast
of mommies driving minivans and motorcycles.) And the pictures look like something a
young grade school child would draw. Obviously simplicity was the purpose. To me, the
book oversimplifies its comparisons and the things it says all moms have in common are silly,
though I feel they are intended to create a unifying image of moms as loving and the same in
the most important ways. My kids like this book. When we read it, we talk about what their mommy
does out of the two contrasting options. I don’t like this book myself because I feel like it did
too much random choosing of what to recognize about differences among mommies and even more random
choosing of what it believes is universal about mommies. It says, “All mommies like to watch you sleep.”
What? I want to be sleeping when my kids sleep. I think they look cute when they sleep, but I was so
surprised by that line. The wrap up is, “All mommies want you to be who you are.” That is so not true.
Many moms ache for their children to be the best they can be, but I just didn’t like the lack of standards
in this book. There is a great relativity and tolerance. Some of the actions of the moms that are presented
without judgment are really not terribly acceptable. If your mom orders pizza all the time, she probably
has fat kids and is on the verge of diabetes. Anyway, be prepared for either feelings that this book is
pretty darn empty, pretty darn warm and fuzzy, or pretty worrisome—depending on your view. Your small
kids will like it and find it interesting.

Dad's Review
I have to agree with my wife's review. In addition to the odd comparisons, I didn't like the pictures
very much. It's hard for me to like drawings that were obviously drawn by an adult but made to look
like a child drew them. After all is said and done though, it is still a children's book, and maybe
the time you spend reading to your children is more important than what the book actually says or what
the pictures look like.
